作者简介:
安伯托·埃柯，1932年生于意大利，他身兼哲学家、历史学家、文学评论家和美学家等多种身份，更是全球最知名的记号语言学权威。他的学术研究范围广泛，从圣多玛斯·阿奎纳到詹姆斯·乔伊思乃至于超人，知识极为渊博。个人藏书超过三万册，已发表过十余本重要的学术著作，其中最著名的是《读者的角色——记号语言学的探讨》这部专著。
《玫瑰的名字》是埃柯的第一部小说。自 1980年出版后，迅速赢得各界一致的好评，荣获意大利两个最高文学奖和法国的文学奖，席卷欧美各地的畅销排行榜，迄今销售已超过一千六百万册，并被翻译成三十五种文字，在美、加、英、法、德均被誉为“最佳小说”，受到读者和评论界的交口称赞。达到了文学的高质量和畅销的完美统一。尽管第一本小说《玫瑰的名字》获得了非凡的成就，他却迟至八年后才再度出版第二本小说——《傅科摆》，正如各方预料，又再度在世界各地引起极大轰动，成为最热门的阅读话题。
